"THE JOY OF COOKING #24 - BELLA ITALIA VOL. I" Selected by oOo Basso oOo
since i started the joy of cooking I wanted to have a show dedicated to the world's #1 cuisine - bella italia.
I gathered so many tracks that it was getting more and more difficult to chose the "right tracks". last week i just made part one and more parts will follow in the future... I decided to leave out some usual suspects as well as ignore the so called "Italo Disco" this time. Instead I focussed almost only on songs that I discovered in record shops (except from 2 tracks) and I hope you'll enjoy it nevertheless....

generally my shows are all vinyl and I enjoy record shopping like a lunatic.
that's of the reasons why I have an online record store now. it's called growing bin records and you'll find all things Kraut, Elektronik, Continental Fusion, New Age, Esoteric, Afro, Disco and Leftield Dance there.
In this show here I'm carefully using records from the shop's stock, some online already, some yet to come.... I hope you enjoy

"THE JOY OF ROASTING APPLES OVER THE CAMPFIRE" Selected by oOo Basso oOo
The Joy Of Roasting Apples On The Campfire
this is something I wanted to do for ages already. a mix full of folksy tracks that I'd enjyo by a campfire. If you dig acoustic guitars, flutes and ambient kraut come over and roast your apples over the campfire ...

"THE JOY OF COOKING SECRET INGREDIENTS" Selected by oOo Basso oOo
imagine you're in a restaurant somewhere at the other end of the world and you can't read the menu. You chose anything and when food is served you only have vague ideas what it might be.
no real playlist but here's some food for thought anyway:
a japanese tourist in bavaria
the most bizarre couple
werewolves in love
dark violet puffs
alicia’s little secret
at the pool with friends
colour me gone
off to progger’s paradise
the bus from amelia
how low can you go?
a burning cinema
the missing ingredient

you probably know these days when there's no time to cook up something fresh and you just grab a pizza from the deep freeze and that's it for the night. and mmmh...... yeah that's it for tonight's show too.
The damn job is pretty time consuming atm and so I filed through my harddisk last night looking for a suitable mix for the show. what I found suitable might not be everybody's cup of tea although the taste is pretty digestible. I guess it's from 98 or 99 and the sound is rather contemporary and mellow. no obscure flea market finds but names like Four Tet, Lemon Jelly and Karma.... even some beautiful IKEA music ; ) from the viennese lounge kaisers and probably some PORK releases too (i was a huge Pork fan in the 90s... when I thinkof it...I still am!). I think I've recognized one or two Baby Mammoths : )
Anyway I hope you'll enjoy some of the tunes ... happy defrosting! Cheers, Basso

What happens if you mingle Tête de Moine with Mango, Oisters and potatoes? I don't know but January's show was supposed to be filled with strange flavours. I had a nice evening picking records from the shelf and rediscovered some old and very old faves. The outcome is far less strange than intended. From a certain point the tunes seem to have picked themselves and only the operating part was left to me. Must admit the whole thing is a bit tragicomical. Seems like I had too much Poe in my youth ; ) Cheers

Starting with a very short track (=no track) by hobby musician group Thotes Schwein and their 1981 hit "Schwuler Frosch". Sounds like there's some good old german beerspirit involved too.
Next up is Alex Oriental Experience. A dealer who showed me that fantastic double album lately called the guy "Türken-Alex". The decision of having a turkish influenced track as the "first" track in a Kraut-Mix is a political one!
Alex is followed by Agitation Free, one of my favourite krautrock bands. Ever! This one here called "First Communication" is the opener to their second LP.
"Öffnen Sie Mal Ihre Tasche" comes from a private press 80s LP called Subtanz.
It's followed by Moebius and Rentzihausen's opener of ther Ersatz LP.
Next up my favourite Richard Schneider Jr. tune "Regine's Dance".
"Wereld World" has been edited by Tako and you'll find it on one of the ESP Concentration Vol. 1 12"s.
Off to some more folky vibes we have Gadzho with "Manege" followed by the International Geräuschorchester.
Next is a collaboration of Kraan and Guru Guru called "Leopardenkästchen" only to be found on a hell rare Promo LP from a southern german radiostation. Hugest thanks to Paul at the Plattenrille for that one : )
Next we have Ceddo's mastermind Jochen Schlumpf. Must admit that I forgot the title and can't find the damn record in the chaos right now....
Now another gifted guitarrero - Martin Müller - accompanied by Hakim Ludin and Michael Höfler with the title track of the truly wonderful Avenida Atlantica LP. Mos definitely one of my favourite finds of the last years.
Voodooish vibes from Frankfurt in "Sister Magic" , strange story about a guy who goes home with a fifteen year old girl and then finds out that girl's got balls ; )
the joy of cooking kraut closes with Janus' "Gravedigger" a perfect neverending kraut hymn from the UK. cheers
